I have a patch of damp appeared in our attic bedroom ceiling. The previous owners have removed the internal chimney breast however the stack remains intact on the roof. Before we moved in the previous owners had some work done to support the remaining stack and put ventilation in and had the room re plastered. I suspect that the damp is something to do with the chimney. What would best approach to investigate the cause of the damp? what can we expect to pay for typical repairs if its from the chimney, ie flashings, cap, flaunching etc. the house is a Victorian terrace with sloping tiled roof. Reading through the questions it seems like a lot of users have issues made worse. What guarantees should be made for any work done?
