Ridge tiles repointed in July. Mortar dropping out

Posted by David Webb, on
I had my ridge tiles and gulley's repointed by a Rated Traders roofer last July. Some of the pointing has dropped out of the ridge tiles in the recent high winds. I have no wish to ask these people back and feel I can't trust them. The mortar that has fallen out seems "hard" enough ( what do I know!). Is it likely the whole lot will need ripping out again? What should my next move be?

Hello David, Sorry to hear of this. If you had the work carried out by workmen from this site! Then report them to rated people's complaints department. We never recommend pointing up ridge tiles. The cement may well be hard but it's only smeared on to the tile and will fall away at some point that's why it's falling off, the ridge tiles need to come off and be fully bedded on. The best advice I can give you is if your tradesmen never came from this site would be to do the following :- 1) Put your job onto rated people's site with a budget of £200 2) You will then receive 3 quotes to rectify the work (the quote will be free of charge to you) 3) Ask for a survey and a report on your roof ( this will also be free of charge to you) 4) You are not committed to accept any of the 3 quotations. But it will help you to understand why it's happened! I hope you find this information of interest. Regards Michael
