Leaking roof by neighbour's chimney

Posted by Ann Hill, on
Water is coming into bedroom from roof adjoining neighbour. Had roofer look inside our loft. He says it's coming from neighbour's chimney stack. She had her chimney stack repaired in summer 2013. Told her the problem, she got her roofers back and they say it's our problem! No-one has been on the roof. Where do we go from here?

Ann, The chimney will more than likely divide the property ( the boundary). Therefore both parties have responsibility for this as it's communal by the sounds off it. Try and work with your neighbour and agree a sum each for who is liable for what. I find it very strange that the chimney had work carried out on it last summer and the contractor didn't mention this as it would be the first thing that we would point out on any contract. Dave.

Work with your neighbor on this one. One chimney. One roofer. One job. One cost one solution.otherwise he said she said and costing you both money and no solution. Work together. Good luck . Donald
