Looking to replace 1 Storey Extension slate roof with plastic roofing.

I have a 1 storey extension that runs along the length of the house at the back. 2/3 of it is slated whist the rest is part slate and part glass. I have noticed that the room with most slate above it has a bowing ceiling whist the other room with the glass/slate is leaking when we have torrential rain. Can this roof be replaced with plastic roofing as found on conservatories?
