Do you have gravel on you're roof to? Also what type of roof covering do you have? Flat Roof MOSSKILLER - Killing Moss & Removing Moss from a Flat Roof Flat roofs, whether the standard 3-layer asphalt or flat roofs constructed from rubber-based compounds, are all susceptible to the growth of moss. Roofs covered with stone chippings do tend to grow moss quicker than a roof coating with no stones. This is because the chippings can help to provide moss with the perfect growing area. Moss loves both shade and moisture and, if given both, moss will grow. The benefits that chippings bring to the roof surface, protection from frost and heat, also helps the moss spores to collect and grow. The removal of moss from a roof is very important. Moss will cause damage to a roof coating. With a roof of flat construction not only does moss fall into gutters which can cause blockages but more importantly as the roof coating starts to age it will slowly start to form small bumps and impressions. If moss is allowed to slowly grow on these areas then as the surface expands and contracts with the effects of the weather it will, very slowly, cause any small surface imperfections to open thus allowing water ingress. It is for these reasons that roof coatings should be kept free of moss and lichens. The treatment of a flat roof is very straight forward and requires nothing more than a brush, bucket, sprayer and a moss killer.
