Hi Fiona, I recommend having a read of our homeowner checklist before hiring a tradesperson and following the steps outlined: ratedpeople(dot)com/c/homeowner-checklist, including checking for previous ratings and reviews and speaking to past customers. Not all trades require professional qualifications but those that do, i.e. electricians and heating engineers working with gas, must provide us with proof of valid credentials before signing up with us. A roofer could have a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations (City&Guilds training) but this isn't a legal requirement. Kind regards, Natalie The Ask an Expert Team
