Ownership of the job

Posted by Peter Lord, on
I asked for a tradesman to fix some fallen tiles. One rang yesterday and turned up on time today, and inspected the roofs of me and my neighbour. It turns out that the tiles had fallen off his roof. Do I transfer the job? It is yet to be done, but I and my neighbour are happy for it to be done tomorrow as scheduled.

Hi Peter, Any changes that occur after you posting a job are between yourself and the tradesperson. Therefore if you agree on the job and payment details there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to proceed as you would have preagreed that the responsibility now sits with the tradesperson and your neighbour. We would recommend that you speak to the tradesperson about this and have a written record to show that the tradesperson was aware of the delegation to your neighbour and was happy to proceed with the job. You can then leave a rating for the tradesperson after the work has been carried out, explaining the delegation of the job. I hope this helps! Kind regards, Natalie The Ask an Expert Team
