Removing Moss from roof

Posted by Michael Wilcock, on
I have had three quotes for a small repair to my tiled roof. One of the issues is the removal of a lot of moss. I have had two prices so far one being 4 times the other. One contractor has said that a pressure washer should not be used on a roof. The cheaper quote is using a pressure washer. Is this a good idea or not?

Hello Michael, It doesn't do any damage to a tiled roof pressure cleaning it but the tiles need to be coated afterwards to give them a new waterproof coating and all the ridge tiles should be rebedded and any broken tiles replaced before the coating is sprayed on. Nic Walker Roofing

Hi Michael, I have recently been asked to quote for removing moss from tiled roofs, we provided a scaffold tower and cleaned off both sides, then applied a coating of anti fungal moss killer. It is very labour consuming and quite slippery when wet, the roofs were semi detached approx 50 years old and well covered in moss, it took me and my apprentice a full day and we filled a wheely bin. We tried to keep mess to a minimum, but it goes everywhere. Homeowners were very pleased with job. I would definately not recommend the use of a pressure washer. Good luck. Andrew.
