Installation of skylights

Posted by David Lewis, on
I was quoted £950 to fit two 55x780 skylights in a slate pitch roof. Given they cost about £120 each and that the roof is currently being being slated, is this expensive?

A lot of people dont understand the work involved. To fit two windows at that price is pretty good. Derek.

Hi David to be honest tiles are a lot easier to work with than slate . when it comes to fit in sky lights .also if it's on a low level roof it's easy again rather than a hight level roof . If it was us at the worst we can supply an fit that for £695 cheers mark

Hi David, I have recently installed 2 Keyline Roof windows to a new build we were tiling, the roof pitch was 40 degrees. There is a lot of work involved to fit the windows properly, and with slates on your roof it makes the job even more tricky. I think the price you have been quoted is fair due to the nature of work involved. Many Thanks. Andrew.

Not really. You have to realise that a good tradesmen could get a minimum of 200£ a day working for someone else. It will take 2 guys to do the work. They have to pay for the rest of the materials, wages, insurance, take all the waste away and give you a warranty on the works. I think 950& it's a very fair price.
