Chimney stack removal

Posted by Roberta Walker, on
My neighbour is getting a lot of building work done we are a semi detached property i returned from work late evening to find she had removed chimney stack and started rebuilding it. I tried to contact her to no avail she came to my door several weeks later asking for half the cost to say i was angry is an understatement informed her she had not informed me of removal of chimney stack she said her builder said it was in bad repair and needed removed so she went ahead. Noone has contacted us ref this should she not need building control am still shocked and angry.

Yes it does as most stacks weigh around seven tonnes! Most councils have a website where you can report building work that hasn't been authorised. Normally takes around five minutes to complete. That will prompt build control to investigate. In addition I believe the party wall agreement would come into play here, so maybe best to seek solicitors help.
