Leaking Roof !

Posted by Sophie , on
We have a garage with a pitched roof. It’s been leaking in bad weather and been patched twice - partial re-felt. Today a roofer has been and says the tiles are not the right ones for the pitch of the roof which is about 12 degrees. I’m just surprised as this is the first time anyone has mentioned this. The last roofer to come suggested a complete re-felt. Thoughts appreciated.

Hi Sophie 12° is too low a pitch for most regular tiles, you can view on tile manufacturers websites technical specs to find the right tiles. You'll also find that they will need an increased overlap to help prevent capillary action pulling water up over the tiles heads. New felt won't stop the tiles leaking if they can't cope with the conditions they've been laid in Martin
