Roofers insurance

Posted by Gerard Roberts, on
I'm talking to a roofing company about reroofing my house. What's the insurance aspect ? Should I insist on seeing his insurance details. This aspect worries me. Who is responsible/liable in event of an accident ?

Hi Gerard, It is in your interest to see the roofing companies up to date insurance documents, this should be a combined liability policy, covering employers liability and public liability. If they can not provide you with details, I would advise you to get another couple of quotes from other roofing contractors. The insurance for Roofers does not come cheap, due to the high risks involved, which is relative to the amount of cover provided by the insurance company. I would also check their Health and Safety policy. Good luck.

Hi Gerard, Thanks for the questions. I'd recommend you look through our homeowner's checklist for advice on how to corroborate reviews, check qualifications and insurance, as well as make agreements with the tradesperson. This can be found at rated.co.uk/checklist. Hope this helps! Thanks, Alex Ask an Expert
