Do I need my chimney capping?

Posted by Emma Beardmore, on
I moved into my property and it had a gas fire. I hired a guy who removed this after the gas had been capped off and had an electrical fire installed. Nothing was done in respect of the chimney but I have noticed the wall either side has gone slightly yellow....is this damp because of the chimney?

If you’re thinking of capping off the chimney pot you must make sure you use a vented cowl which is suitable to use with whatever fire you’re using. Never cap chimney off totally as this will cause damp must keep an air circulation
