I agreed a price with Mark Porter of South West Painters to paint newly installed stair rails etc. Mon. 3rd Dec. he treated knots and undercoated but didn't adequately sand the wood, if at all, as very rough. Tues. 4th Dec he applied top coat, again with little or no sanding and I felt he should also have applied 2 undercoats. After complaining of poor finish, he sent another painter to apply another top coat which was worse than ever. He agreed return Fri 14th Dec but didn't arrive or reply to messages!

Your stairs had Knotting,Primer, Undercoat and three top coats. But when you phone me up saying your not happy and have rubbed it down yourself, im afraid I then believed what the other trades said about you being sad and lonely and wanting attention..... The job was perfect and I have the pictures to prove it !

I never said I had rubbed down the stairs myself. Why would I when I paid you to do it? What I said was I had previously rubbed down and decorated staicases years ago at my previous homes. My stairs had pimer undercoat and TWO top coats as recorded in my diary! Pictures unfortunately cannot show how rough the wood is or show what looks like grains of sand embedded in the painted handrail. I've had 2 further opinions of your work and they both say they've never seen such a bad finish by a 'professional'.

Overall a good job, but a few very small details needed dealing with afterwards.
