Floor fitters

Nic and Paul were fantastic from start to finish of the job. I can not rate them or their team highly enough! Nic took her time to make sure the job was exactly to spec and Paul and the lads carried out a superb job. So many people have already complimented our beautiful paving and garden, some booking for a job themselves. I am a firm believer in actions speak louder than words ‘we are having the guys back to do our front garden on the next couple of weeks!’ Our actions speak volumes. Thank you Tiger

Paul and his team were wonderful; friendly, reliable and the standard of their work was exactly what we hoped for. It’s always a worry when entrusting a supplier you haven’t worked with before everything went like clockwork from beginning to end and we are thrilled with both the driveway and the garden work. This company is a gem: a small local concern who genuinely care about their customers and are keen to give an honest service at a value for money price.

Paul and Nicola were great and really helpful. They got round to do a quote quickly and got the clearance job done quickly with a minimum of fuss, They even sourced a roofer for me and oversaw his repair job when my roof started leaking the day before I was due to go on holiday.

Gardener / Landscape gardeners

We had a garden clearance, fence installed and then later had the garden levelled and turfed, as well as a step, a shed base and raised bed built. The team was excellent, helpful and their input was invaluable. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for garden work. When there was a slight miscommunication Nicola’s quick response and phone call was much appreciated. We are extremely pleased with the work done (and my arthritic Shih Tzu greatly appreciates the new step).

What do I do when a Rate People tradesman hasn't completed a job in 5 weeks?

  • Nicola Sumpter's Answer
    Sat 25 Aug 2018 20:23pm

Firstly, obviously talk to your tradesman to find out if there are valid reasons for the job to take longer than you were expecting. In some cases , especially if the work is outside, weather conditions can delay works considerably or there may be an issue with getting the correct materials on site etc. When we take on a job we only give an approximate start date and estimated duration of works as we are a hard landscaping business so weather conditions can really affect our lead times. However we always make this clear to the clients when they accept our estimate and sign their contract. We also only do one job at a time, we never go off and start another job until the current one is completed, however we are aware that there are may tradesmen that try and do multiple jobs at once, which may be another cause for delay. Another reason might be personal or family issues and they have not communicated with you to explain this is the reason for the delayed completion. Ultimately communication is key, just have a friendly chat with your tradesman and ask if there is a good reason why the job has taken 5 weeks. Be understanding and non confrontational and give them a chance to explain how they propose to complete the works and when? If this is done verbally I would try and get something in writing , by email or text just clarifying what you have agreed. If the works are still not completed within a reasonable amount of time, then you may need to consider taking matters further and possibly going through the small claims court to get your money back if you have paid anything upfront. This is really simple to do online and providing you have evidence to back up your claim then the threat of a CCJ is usually enough to get a satisfactory response. Good luck and hope you find a suitable resolution!

Does it really cost a tradesman £45 to buy a job??

  • Nicola Sumpter's Answer
    Sat 25 Aug 2018 20:8pm

Yes that is correct, for the kind of jobs that we buy, we pay around £35-£45 plus VAT and as Mostafa has said , we have no issue with this, as the cost is made back if the lead is converted into a job anyway However, it is very frustrating when we buy a lead and the client either doesn't answer the phone at all, despite prompt contact and several calles/texts/emails/chat messages, as we only ever buy jobs that are still "first to buy" so not as if they already have one or 2 other trades estimating and don't want to bother with any more. The other issue that we are finding more and more recently, is that some home owners have a very unrealistic budget which means there is little to no chance of getting the job anyway. Unfortunately some clients put very basic information on their lead posting , so you don't find out until you actually get to see the job what the full details are. In our opinion it would be a good idea for Rated People to adapt their homeowner posting process to include mandatory questions asking for more information and details of the works involved so that it can be established fairly quickly by an experienced tradesmen, if the job is worth buying or not. Also I think it would help if it was made clearer to home owners that tradesmen do actually have to pay for the leads, as many clients have told us this is something they are not aware of.
