I still don't understand how I can be charged £180 for fit a thermostatic valve in an hour

always get a quite or hourly rate from any tradesman your thinking of employing i think its expensive but not exorbitant but if it was done as an emergency its probably cheap im going on london prices

Jonathan is correct in his reply if your plumber has supplied parts then did he or she have to source them and then make a journey to collect them if so you would be charged for this time spent also the time to query a price is before work starts all good trades people will be happy to give a quote for work to be carried out this then gives you the opportunity to gain other quotes to compare it isn’t advisable to give someone the go ahead with work without an idea of cost

Peter... if this was just labour, yes you are correct and I entirely agree with you, the charge is accessive Although, if this is labour plus supply of new valve and any materials, this is a reasonable price I hope this helps! J Ireland Plumber
