Ceiling repair

I have moved into a old house that has had a water leak on the landing ceiling i have had plasterers give me quotes some say overboard and some say pva it and skim over it what would you recommend.

I would agree, to over board myself as when plaster board gets wet, as in your case wen it drys it warps, not saying the other plasterers are wrong, because I personally haven't seen the damage it has caused, you may get away with p.v.a an skim, but would you want to risk that? Hi Michael, Depending on what damage the leak has caused, the easiest and cheapest option would be to apply a few coats of heavy PVA and then skim over the top. If the leak has caused holes and damage to the plasterboard itself you could either replace that sheet of plasterboard and then have the whole ceiling skimmed or re board the whole thing but that is the last thing you want to do.
