Paul responded to our job quickly and provided us with a great quote and also offered us different ideas for how he could tile our chimney breast with split face tiles. He is super polite, friendly and his workmanship is outstanding. Without hesitation, we will ask Paul to do further tiling for us in the future. Thank you Paul, we are over the moon. Jane and Mark

We liked Armando straight away. He's a lovely person and can't do enough for you. We wanted a garage opening widened. He responded to my request promptly and came round quickly, providing a quote straight away. It was a good price and we gave him the job. Armando performed the work well and to schedule. That's not the whole picture though, he went out of his way to help out with other tasks that weren't included in the quote, like taking unwanted stuff to the local dump. I can thoroughly recommend him.

Mick and Tom have done a brilliant job converting my garage into a room. They were very quick and efficient, extremely friendly and completed the job to a high standard. They also recommended some additional drainage which I required, without this I could have had problems in the future. The tradesmen they work with were also wonderful and I would use them again if I needed anything else doing.

Very professional - the guys turned up on time and worked very hard all day until they had built my new fence; they returned the following morning to clear up, leaving no mess behind. I am very satisfied with the standard of the work done and would certainly recommend this company to other people. Reading their website, it seems that they do a wide range of work and I will probably ask them to do futher jobs in the future.

Michael put in some TV points for me. He was the first to respond, first to attend my home to quote up and ended up being the cheapest and the most professional and personable. Not only did he attend bang on the times he said he would, he was also very polite and professional throughout and most importantly, the work done was to an exceptional standard, and I am very fussy!. He cleared up as well so it was like he had never been here. I would and do highly recommend him and his team.

Plasterers & Renderers - what you need to know

A good plasterer can give your walls a smooth finish, whether it’s covering up the brickwork of a load-bearing wall, or if it’s to cover the plasterboard of an internal wall. Once done the wall will be damp-proofed and ready for decorating - and of course, a good plasterer will do it in record time.

What a plasterer can help with

  • Solid plastering (applying wet finishes to surfaces and putting protective coverings like pebble-dash on outside walls).
  • Fibrous plastering (creating ornamental plasterwork like ceiling roses, cornices and architraves).
  • Dry lining (fixing internal plasterboard or wallboard partitions).
  • Skimming (covering plaster with a flawlessly smooth surface for decoration).
  • Rendering (protecting or brightening brickwork, adding a modern layer of plaster to the wall, or simply repairing or replacing current renders, such as stucco finishes).

They can also create ornamental plastering to give your home a rustic or decorative feel. Their skills stretch to putting up internal plasterboard and wallboard partitions - great for when you need to create a new room or space in your home.

If you have a modern home then plastering and skimming should be a simple task for any experienced plasterer.

In period or suburban properties, the walls can be made from brick or even concrete, and the plaster may be applied direct to the walls rather than to plasterboard.

In older properties you may not be after the smooth finish we’re used to in modern homes, so you could go for a lime plaster instead that gives a more rustic look. If you have an older home, or one that’s listed, then you should always let the plasterer know first so they can take this into account.

The cost of the job will depend on the size of the room and how much work needs to be done in terms of preparation and finishing. If you have very deteriorated plaster on your walls, or damp plaster work on the ceiling that needs to be removed, then you’ll probably need the old plaster to come off and an entirely new plasterboard fitted.

Insurance for plastering work

Like most trades who are working on your home, they’ll need public liability insurance to protect you against any damage that could potentially happen.

Planning permission for plastering jobs

You’ll also need to check planning permission if your home is a listed building or if it’s in a conservation area. Your plasterer or builder should be able to advise on these issues.

Building regulations for plasterers

If a render covers a substantial part of the exterior of your property, your plasterer will need to comply with building regulations.

Questions you should ask a plasterer

  • Do they have public liability insurance and what does this cover?
  • How long have they been trading for?
  • How long will the work take?
  • Does the room need to be cleared and is this something they can help with?
  • Will the room be usable immediately after the work or does it need to dry? If it needs to dry, for how long?
