Low water pressure affects my electrical shower?

Posted by aline ithurbide, on
Hi there, One month ago I changed my electrical shower thinking that it was too old and this was why it stopped working randomly. However, 2 days later the problem was still there, I called my electrician, he checked all the electrical parts and told me that I certainly have a water pressure problem. Checked and the pressure is too low (i'm on top floor) and my shower just cut the power to prevent a burn out. Anyway,It was not an emergency because it was working ok since I took care to not exceed a certain temperature, but since yesterday the shower does not work more than 30 sec So,I wonder what can I do to solve this (I have no answer from the scottish water company)? . Thanks for your help.

9 times out of 10 it is one of the stop cocks not turned on fully so I would check this first before fitting a pump to the mains supply.

Firstly, find your exterior stop cock and make sure its fully turned on. Then make sure the internal one is also fully turned on. Simple i know, but try this first.

Hi, You can have a pump fitted to the main supply to boost water pressure in the whole flat but you can not fit a pump to the shower. The reason for this is that shower pumps are to boost tank feed supplies not mains feed, the pump is not designed to hold pressure, Just create it. A pump is needed at the point where your supply enters your flat, this will return your pressure to the correct level at all mains feed outlets as well as solve the issue with the shower. You may find prolonged use of your shower will damage the heat can & internal thermal cut out as it is the flow through the shower that regulates the temperature. I hope this has been of help Kind regards, Ian Allen Aquian Plumbing

hi aline, first stop is to check that all stopcocks are fully open and working. I presume you are in a flat (you say you are on the top floor).ask the other tenants if they have the same problem. if so, it may be worth checking with your water supplier. as a last resort, you can fit a pump to the cold water supply to boost the pressure. hope this helps, regards, pete.
