More and more insurers are insisting that you fit your home with deadlocks when you take out policies with them. These locks are very solid security measures that are often known as 3 lever or 5 lever mortices or Chubb locks. They shut the door with strong piece of metal that must be physically unlocked rather than the simple twist open mechanism of a standard Yale lock. These are simple to replace, but your locksmith or carpenter may take longer to install a new deadlock. This is because they may need to chisel out a hole for the locking mechanism in both the door and the door frame before fitting the lock and the locking plate.
