Setting the right budget

How much should you expect to pay?

We know it's difficult to estimate how much a project will cost, that's why we've surveyed our tradesmen to give you an idea of how much you should expect to pay for specific jobs. Tradesmen all across the country have contributed to the cost guides, so the costs you see are an approximate national average.

With the increase in popularity of outdoor heaters and stoves we find ourselves spending more time in the garden during the evening, therefore, more of us are finding that we need something more than the odd security light out there.

Cheap solar path lights from the DIY store are enough to enable you to walk around your garden safely, but an electrician or landscape expert will be able to bring subtle ambient mood lighting to your garden. An experienced professional will be able to pick out key features and plants with lighting, so they may choose to place an uplighter beneath a central tree or a set of smaller ones beneath hedges or bushes. Similarly, your pond or even your shed can be lit up using soft-coloured light.

Uplighters can also define pathways or patios and your landscape can even embed LED lights in the patio. If you are feeling more frivolous then you may choose to have strings of fairy lights along the fencing or wrapped around a tree. Prices start low with small spotlights but can go high with items such as lampposts for larger gardens. A good landscaper will work some planning time into their quote and overall costs will depend on just how many lights you need and whether an electrical supply needs to be taken outside.

Rated People surveyed 107 of our gardeners across the country to give you an idea of the approximate costs for a range of work in your garden. Please note these prices are average, do not include materials and are offered as guidance only, to help you budget when posting a job on Rated People. For a free quote tailored to your specific requirements, please contact one of our local gardeners and garden designers.
