|Plaster only||With skim finish|
We don’t often think about the decoration on our ceilings, but ceiling plaster can decay over time or become damaged. This is especially true of the plaster below bathrooms, which can be damaged by flooding from your bath or shower. In most cases, if the plaster is dry, a skim of plaster will fill any cracks or cover imperfections so that you can repaint or repaper the ceiling.
If the ceiling needs re-plastering then your tradesman will take the plaster back to the plasterboards on your ceiling and start again, layering two coats of plaster on the ceiling for a clean, smooth finish. A base coat will be put on and once this is dry a skim coat will be added if needed. Sometimes this can be left if you are papering rather than painting the ceiling. The job will be charged according to the size of the ceiling and how much work needs doing. Obviously, skimming will come in at a good deal less than a full plastering job.
