Extractor hood (cooker)

Low High
Extractor hood £100 £200

It is essential to have an extractor hood fitted in your kitchen to rid the room of fumes, smells and grease. These are available in a variety of models and styles, but most people go with one that comes from the same manufacturer as their hob or simply fits in with their kitchen design.

It is vital that the hood is installed properly, as the air needs to be filtered from your hob correctly. Some cooker hoods simply filter the air through filters before recirculating it, whereas others are ducted and take the air outside.

The ducted type requires more work to fit and will therefore cost more for installation. If you are in any doubt as to what type to fit or where to fit it then your kitchen fitter or electrician should be able to help. Suppliers of ducted hoods should be able to supply any ducting and fittings needed. Apart from the cost of the hood itself, you are paying for your electrician’s time and expertise. It should be fairly simple to put the hood into position and to connect it to the electricity supply and make sure that any switches work. If it is in a difficult to reach spot then this can take longer and cost more.
