Repointing of Chimney stack

How do I repoint a chimney stack

Joseph Leadbeater

Des, You would first need to cut out some of the existing mortar with an "angle grinder". You can get a wheel that's specifically for this purpose.Only take out 15 or 20mm. Then to repoint, I would purchase a repointing gun. It looks like a mastic gun, only bigger. You mix up the mortar and pore it into the gun. This makes the job a lot easier and less messy. You would then wait for it to go "green" (just starting to go off). Probably about 20 to 30 minutes depending on the weather. Then cut it in with a cutting tool or blade of some kind to finish. Some builders or bricklayers use a section of hose for this. The main thing is to make sure your safe and have all the proper ladders. If your unsure then I would recommend you call in a Bricklayer to do the job for you. Thanks, Joseph
