Hi Joyce The question I would ask is why are you taking the chimney breast out. It it because you want a stone or brick appearance to it ? If it is that you've no need to take the whole breast out, just the facing. ( the outer skin of bricks ) Taking a breast out is quite an undertaking if there is a breast on the upper floor and a chimney above it. If not you would still have to prop any floor joists that run into it. Best get someone to come and look at it for you JC
