Hey Jackie, I have quite a bit of experience with garden rooms. The short answer is no. As long as you comply with a few rules. The room cannot be over 2,5m in height (from the current ground level) unless you build it at least 2m away from boundary walls. The standard is to build right up against the back fence. Use a mono-pitch GRP (fibre glass) roof and stick to 2,5m. That still gives you ample head room inside. The cost depends on the level of finish you desire. It can be built for as little as £4,000 for a very basic finish and up to £13,000 for the full house.
