There is probably an NVQ for younger guys. Blue or Gold CSCS card if it's more like site construction. When I was a site foreman i just looked at people's chisels (blunt or damaged = not the real deal) Furniture makers may have a degree or city and guilds Extensive portfolio, good ratings on rated people Willingness to explain what they are planning to do in detail without trying to baffle you. Personal recommendation for similar work Sawdust in their beard and hands like old saddle leather ;-)
