After initial assessment I was told it was a two man job who duly arrived in a couple of days with a jetting machine to clear the limescale. They worked very hard to jet the blockage one in the bathroom one outside at the manhole with the jetter. When they were satisfied the soilpipe was clear they inserted a camera so we could all see the there was now no obstruction. They were pleasant and informed me what was happening all the time, I would recommend them to others.

What a drainage specialist can help you with
Drainage specialists tend to work with broken pipes and other drainage problems like blocked drains.
As well as clogged sinks, toilets and showers, drainage problems can also be caused by trees and tree roots interrupting the sewer line. Cracks in a path near a tree can be a sign that a tree’s roots are causing problems. A drainage specialist can bore the sewer line open, get rid of the roots, treat them so they don’t grow in that spot again, and then replace or reline the pipe.
Drainage specialists also install and empty septic tanks, which collect waste in homes that don’t have pipes that are connected to a public sewer system. You should have your tank emptied roughly once a year, following the rules outlined on the GOV.UK website.
A drainage specialist can help with:
- Installing, unblocking and cleaning drains
- Dealing with sewage problems
- Installing septic tanks or soakaways
- Septic tanks clearance and cleaning

For all your drainage needs, speak to a skilled drain installation and repair specialist in your local area today. They’ll be able to offer the right drainage solutions for your home, regardless of whether you have a blockage or need whole new plumbing.

Factors to consider when choosing a drainage company
It’s really important that you choose a reliable drainage system company to carry out work on your pipes and tanks. Failing to do this can result in unnecessary stress and expensive repairs.
Before you hire, you should do your research to ensure that your drainage specialists:
- Are an experienced company with a strong history of successful projects
- Have all the necessary licenses and insurance needed to protect you and their workers
- Have a good range of positive reviews from previous customers vouching for their reliability
- Are offering the drainage services you need, and are available to carry out the work in the timeframe you need it done by
- Are quoting a price and payment option that you are happy with, having compared the quote with other local drainage companies
A local drainage specialist is more likely to respond quickly, as they’ll be right around the corner and ready to help.

How much does it cost to hire a drainage specialist?

Other driveway FAQs
Do I need planning permission for drainage work?
You typically do not need planning permission for repairs and minor maintenance unless your property is a listed building. However, you must clarify ownership before altering any shared drains, sewers, or manholes with your neighbours
To check whether your drainage job requires planning permission, contact your local planning authority. You can also visit the Planning Portal website, or read our planning permission guide, for more information.
What questions should I ask before hiring a drainage company?
Before hiring, you should ask if they have public liability insurance to protect your property and confirm how many years of experience they have. It is also important to request a clear breakdown of the total costs and an estimated timeline for completion. You can check a company's past ratings, reviews, and work galleries directly on their Rated People profile.
How can I ensure a good working relationship with my drainage specialist?
You can ensure a smooth project by being completely clear about your budget and expectations from the very beginning. Stay in the loop by asking for regular updates, and keep a written record of any changes to costs or timelines. If you have any concerns as the work unfolds, discuss them with your specialist immediately to resolve issues quickly.
