What is the difference between internal rendering and traditional internal plastering?

Can you paint directly onto an internal render finish?
Generally, no. Sand-and-cement internal render leaves a highly abrasive, coarse, and textured finish. To make the wall ready for paint or wallpaper, a plasterer will apply a thin, 2mm layer of smooth gypsum finishing plaster over the top of the dry render. However, for a rustic look in garages or workshops, breathable masonry paint can be applied directly to a neat render coat.
How long does it take for internal rendering to dry completely?
Because internal rendering uses thick, dense cement layers, it takes significantly longer to cure than thin plaster. As a general rule, you should allow at least 24 to 48 hours per layer before a final plaster skim is applied. The entire wall can take several weeks to cure completely before you can safely seal it with modern emulsion paint.
What credentials and insurance should my rendering contractor hold?
There are no mandatory regulatory licenses required for internal renderers. However, look for experienced plasterers who hold a City & Guilds or NVQ Diploma in Plastering and Solid Rendering. We have over 30 years experience in landscaping and general home improvements, no job to big or small, we provide free quotations and site visits. Customer satisfaction comes first for us every time. The whole process was a nightmare. We were given a quote by Kieran which we accepted. The job was cancelled 4 times at the last minute on each occasion through a variety of reasons. We tried to re-arrange each time but it was always cancelled. After the 4th time we gave up and cancelled the job as it is frankly too unreliable and we need someone professional. We are now failing to get our deposit back as apparently unused materials cannot be returned. He wants to just dump it on our driveway. Avoid using!

He was very good at the job and finished on time etc. The one thing I found slightly annoying was the urgency to finish the job and get the money, ie insisting that he paints the fence even though it was forecast to almost certainly rain that day and receiving multiple calls from his wife etc to our pressure. Overall though I am pleased with the end result and will use him again if given a chance
