Setting the right budget

How much should you expect to pay?

We know it's difficult to estimate how much a project will cost, that's why we've surveyed our tradesmen to give you an idea of how much you should expect to pay for specific jobs. Tradesmen all across the country have contributed to the cost guides, so the costs you see are an approximate national average.

Door frame

Low High
Door frame £50 £90

Over time, your door frame can become damaged through wear and tear or even due to an attempted break in. Wood can become rotten or split due to poor paintwork or weatherproofing, with extreme weather speeding up any minor damage. It is important to maintain a sound door frame, as this is as much a part of your home security as the door it holds.

A carpenter or joiner  should be able to repair your door frame without the need for replacement and this will be achieved by the tradesman using patches to seal any damaged or split wood. The damaged wood will be cut or planed down and the patch glued and clamped. Alternatively, the tradesman may decide to cut part of the frame out and place a new piece of wood in the frame, securing the wood around it with screws. Minor splits can be repaired with filler, putty or glue before waterproof paint is applied where needed.

Rated People surveyed 83 of our carpenters and joiners across the country to give you an idea of the approximate costs for a range of work on external doors. We also asked about internal doors.
