Setting the right budget

How much should you expect to pay?

We know it's difficult to estimate how much a project will cost, that's why we've surveyed our tradesmen to give you an idea of how much you should expect to pay for specific jobs. Tradesmen all across the country have contributed to the cost guides, so the costs you see are an approximate national average.

Door frame £40 £80

Whether you are having a door fitted in a new location or your door frame needs replacing, a carpenter or joiner should be able to cut and fit a new door frame for you in a short space of time. This will provide a strong and secure base for your door and will keep both intruders and draughts out. The frame will be attached with waterproof glue and then fixed to the brickwork or exterior of the house with screws that go into the walls. The door frame can then be finished and painted as needed, with screws being covered with wood filler to make them secure, flush and waterproof. Having a professional carry out this job will ensure that everything is level and that the door frame is attached with just the right amount of tension, as over-tight screws can cause warping of the frame. Once the door is hung, then the tradesman may carry out more sealing and finishing work on the frame.

Rated People surveyed 83 of our carpenters and joiners across the country to give you an idea of the approximate costs for a range of work on external doors. We also asked about internal doors.
