Is it easy to unbrick a fireplace that has been bricked up? I'd like to do it myself, up to about 4 1/2 ft and then put a kitchen cabinet and worktop inside it

Hi Kate Yes it's fairly easy you may need too put a 4in by 3in plank concrete Lintol in at the height you wish the opening to be also you will need too block the flue too and depending on the internal make up inside you may need too take out more masonry and render or plaster the inside square. So as I said fairly easy for the basic diyer very dirty job though Hope this helps Shawn Slb, brickwork

Hello Kate, as Shawn says it's a dirty job but very rewarding. I removed a 30's tiled fireplace from my flat a few months ago, it took a few hours and I uncovered the origional tiled victorial hearth. Looks great. Hope it all goes well for you. Cheers, Craig
