What is causing some of my housebricks to be covered in a white powder-house 17 years old

Hi Ruth, The white powder is soluable salt it is caused when the building is wet then drys. It is either been cast into your bricks at the time of manufacture or in the sand. It's technical term is called efflorescence. Dave

Hi Ruth, Common causes are lime/ salt in the mortar ,it's quite common in new builds and very difficult to control. Regards Jason Edifice Projects
