Repointing - can I put flush finish on top of new bucket handle finish

I recently (one month ago) had an external wall repointed, with bucket handle finish, sand, cement and hydraulic lime mix. It was what I asked for and I have no complaints about the work, however I'm now starting to think that a flush finish might look better and would match the rest of the exterior walls.
Is it possible to add a flush finish directly on top of this recent bucket handle finish without scraping out the new bucket handle mortar?
Will it adhere properly or will it just fall off?
