Help..

Posted by Sarah Laurie, on
My bedroom cupboard which is being used as a wardrobe is cold and damp. It needs stripped back and insulated. I have posted this job once but nobody seems interested. How can I attract someone to the job?

Hi Sarah , It could be your budget , however it sounds like you could do with some advice as if you have a damp problem simply insulating won't rid the problem just merely cover up the problem. I would suggest you try to find someone locally that is willing to pop round and have a look for free, you will hopefully then know what is involved . Myself as a builder to read a job post wouldn't be interested as I know insulating doesn't rid damp . Good luck and I hope you get it sorted. Jason Edifice projects

If possible add some dimensions to your info so people can have a better gauge of the job size and if it is worth while buying the lead (we tradesman pay a fee for each referal and only buy if its worth doing so) also have a realistic cost in mind say a days labour £130 and materials 50-100

Hello Sara, It's important that you understand the following :- The more value you put on the job the more the tradesmen will have to pay. Keep your budget low irrespective of what you want to do. (Then you will attract interest) Regards Michael

Hello Sarah, It certainly sounds like you have a problem with a lack of air flow, in wardrobes and often behind tvs and bedroom furniture you often get cold spots , this can lead to problems like black mould appearing and often people will notice a musty smell. Is the wardrobe on a externally wall? do you have cavity wall insulation?. Give me as much information as possible and I will try to come up with a solution for you. Is there a condensation problem in the property? Regards David Cole

Sarah, Re-post the job giving the dimensions of the cupboard. Agree you may have a damp problem which someone would have to come and look at before giving a quote. Regards, David

Try posting the job again with a different budget and give the dimensions of the job involved. By the sounds of it it's only a small job and the cost of it wouldn't be great so I'd suggest putting a lower budget but mentioning that your can be discussed with the builder because the more you put down as your budget the higher we have to pay to quote for the job. Hope this is of help. Chris @ SUTS roofing and building ltd
