Is it possible to create a recess into cavity?

Posted by Chris Collings, on
I want to put in an electric stove effect fire, but I want it to look like it sits within a fireplace type recess. I have a modern home, with no chimney. Is it at all possible to do something with the cavity wall + inner layer of blocks (~300mm). Can these be taken out and something put in to avoid damp problems associated with removing a section of the cavity wall? And obviously a lintel would probably be required, as I’m looking at around 1m2 removal of blocks. Any advice would be helpful!!

U will need a lintel. Clean off all the debris and seal with a clear brick sealer. Try not to butt up to the external wall and make sure their is no debris in ur 20 mm cavity from fire to external wall. No bridge made by debris and the damp can't travel. U can always brick it back up if u don't like it. Regards sjh
