Building an extension...

Posted by Lorna Morgan, on
We are hoping to build a second storey extension on stilts (as we need right of way underneath) 3 rooms... 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. It will also run down the length of the side of the house. We've already had a guitar for 35,000 with building regs and plans in with it, but we are looking to cut down costs.... could the steal work, footings, rendering be done by trades people, then we do the interior (walls, floors, skimming etc) ourselves? And roughly how much would that cut the cost down by? Do people do that sort of thing? Any advice would be great thanks.

Yes you can do the job like this in stages remembering to get each stage checked by building control, they will let you know what stages they need to visit you but final stage they will want to see it completed ie plastered with a part p certificate for your electrics
