Remove chimney breasts without written consent from neighbour

Hello, advice needed: I have a 1930s semi house and intended to removed all chimney breasts in the house. Our builder checked with neighbour and they verbally agreed. We served written notice and offered to speak but didn't hear back. Our builder removed the chimney following the verbal consent before we received written consent. (its all properly supported and will have building control sign off) Now we suddenly received email from neighbour's appointed surveyor to follow the procedure. What can we do now? We had every best intent to do the right thing but our neighbour was not even prepared to speak to us. Do we just tell her the job is done? Are we still liable for any of her surveyor fees? thanks
