I'm replacing and old and cheap fireplace suround with hearth and thought the woodern hearth (mdf) would be removed easily by unscrewing the 2 screws ar the wall end of the hearth.
This was not the case, I thought the screws were immovable because it was through both the wood and into the concrete however after chiselling the wood away from around one screw it became apparent this was either glued, grouted or cemented onto of the existing cement sub floor.
What can I do to identify what adhesive the previous owners used and tips to removing this myself?
I dont want to keep destroying the thing if I cant remove it fully as the back up plan is to just ground the slate hearth over the top. Much less desirable option but I cant find anything on the internet except for concrete hearth removals which this is not.
Many thanks!
