Extension in front of neighbours window

Posted by I Norton, on
We live in a Victorian terrace house (2 up 2 down). We currently have a galley style kitchen, and are looking to build a single story extension into our into the side return (on the right of the property). Our neighbour, to the right, has a similar extension. And has a window on the boundary of the property (facing our property). If we extend our house, we will be building a wall in front of this window. I understand the extension we would be looking to build falls under permitted development. And it is my understanding that she does not have a ‘right to light’ through this window, as it has been built right on the boundary (although it has been there for more than 20 years). I was wondering whether we are within our rights to build up to this window? I am not looking to do this, i am going to speak with my neighbour first. I’m just wondering whether we would be in the wrong for doing this? I don’t want to go to the hassle of getting builders in if this work is not feasible. Thank you.
