Deposit paid, fitter left halfway through

Posted by Alex Elmes, on
I paid a deposit, half the job, to get a kitchen fitted. I explained there were some alterations as a wall was removed and piers had to be built unexpectedly. The fitter worked two days and then his boss sent an email saying as the job was not to plan they wanted to wait until some missing parts/works were done. The works were completed whilst the fitter was there (small plumbing job and moving a socket). He ignored my emails and texts for nearly a week, and then flatly refused to come back. I have asked for the deposit to be repaid but he hasn't after two weeks. I found him on rated people and he had fit another kitchen for me before. He has been rude/deflamatory and down right unpleasant because I said it was unprofessional of him to ignore my emails and texts. He said he was going to take two days off the price for his fitter which is fair, but will not tell me what his fitter is charged. I have asked him twice for money, but got no reply. What should I do? Thanks for your help.
