We are looking to get the weed-riddled gravel out the front of our house re-graveled and a guy has quoted but asked for 50% deposit upfront to secure the date. That's about £500 - a lot of money to us and I'm seeing mixed thoughts in older forums. Some saying this is to cover the guy's materials etc and others saying he should be able to cover this initially (as he should have made money previously to cover this job). I'm more than happy to put a deposit down as I imagine tradespeople get let down etc .. but 50% feels very high to me. Thoughts?
