I have permission to take down a load bearing wall and insert a steel beam in my old tenement flat. The engineer has assumed party wall is 215mm thick or cavity, but says a different fixing detail will be required to what he recommends if wall is single skin.
What is the best way to confirm the wall type before ordering the recommended fixings? How would a professional do it on the job?
