Who do I ask to install dormer windows in a listed building?

Posted by Patricia Mason , on
Subject to planning permission, we wish to install dormer windows to a listed converted cart shed - there are many old beams and the job requires a tradesman who understands old buildings - what do you advise?

Ideally you need to involve a surveyor to draw up the plans and ask the surveyor to help when it comes to appointing the contractor, the surveyor may recommend someone or if they could may ask the correct questions to help vet your contractor

I have had experience with listed buildings and depending on the grade of the listing I would advise you to contact planning. They will help you although it is unlikely you will be able to change the roof line as even on a standard house these have planning implications. If your application is refused try to work with the council to find a solution they are there to help and will do so. regards Dave
