Hi there are alot of building regulations regarding stairs that would come into force once you altered the existing staircase, if you want to achieve a shallower pitch for the stairs the overall lenght of the stairs would increase and you would end up with less room on the landing/hallway. You may also have problems with headroom especially as the headroom tends to be tighter on older properties, you maybe able to have a winder section on the new stairs to help with this. It's probably best to post your job on the site at a low budget price and explain that you realise the job would be more expensive but you need someone to see if it's possible. Hope this helps.Ed
