How to put wooden skirting on a curved stonefloor.

Posted by laura reid, on
I have an old property and the ground floor rooms have no skirting boards. I would like to put some in only the floor curves up to the wall and it wont sit flush to the wall. can this be done and how please. Laura

Hi Laura, This is always a tricky job on an old house. There has always been movement and its hard to find a straight line anywhere. The simplest and most cost effective is to fit the skirting boards and then use filler in the gap at the top. If you want to keep the skirting natural its a good idea to mask along the top before filling and painting the wall. A general handyman can do this. If money is no object then perhaps look at having the walls re-plastered and the floor levelled. But this is time consuming and expensive. You would need a plasterer for the wall and a joiner for the floor (if wood floorboards) Filling is cheap and cheerful and if done properly will look neat enough. Kind regards Tom
