Custom ikea kitchen doors

Posted by Ruth Broers, on
I'm planning a new kitchen, potentially ikea carcasses but with custom doors made. Has anyone has any experience of doing this / would recommend?

Hi Ruth the issue with Ikea cabinetry is that it is "back to wall" - which is fine if you have no pipework and your walls are true and square. Majority of kitchens however are not. I would recommend a carcase that had a service void to overcome any imperfections and obstacles. Any competent joiner would be able to make bespoke doors but you also need to consider the type of decorated finish you want on your bespoke doors - eg hand painted would not offer such durability as some prefabricated finishes. I hope this is of some help. Paul - Cocina Carpentry

Nothing wrong with the general plan however due to ikea having flat to the wall back panels you need to have very true and flat walls. Most cabinets have a cavity at the back to run cables pipes etc and this also gives you tolorances for wonky walls
