Asked a question before about the squeak on my stairs. What happens if access isnt possible from underneath. Can this be fixed just from above, i have already screwed the treads tight but still squeak. Many thanks

Hi Martin the talcum powder is a new one on me ! It should be possible to access underside of stairs, yes you will do damage to the plasterboard on the underside but it makes it so much easier to make the repairs. If you don't want to do this you need to try and identify the spot that's producing the squeak and plaster it in glue and try and get some fixings in it. Ed

Hi, Always a tricky one , I have stopped squeaks in floors by applying genorus amounts of talcum powder you simply apply it over the effected area and leave it for a few days , or you could apply PVA into the gaps and joins in the risers and stringers . Good luck
