Replacing Newell posts - Can I Glue and use large joining screw?

Hi Anthony the replacement newel posts normally have a large dowel on the bottom, you need to cut off the existing newel and drill out a suitable sized hole. The newel is best fixed with a polyurethane wood adhesive ( similar to expanding foam). Goes of like rock so no need for long screws . Ed

Hi Anthony, I agree with the comment below the newel post needs to be fixed with a large dowel along with some glue. This can be done if you are a confident DIY-er Use a good glue and make sure that it's also a good fit as the newel post comes under alot of wear n tear over its life. Good luck.
