Hi Lance it's a relatively straight forward job to install a studwall, the main things are to be careful you don't damage any service pipes and cables, ensure the wall is fixed plumb and that any door opening is of a suitable size. The size of the stud is generally determined by the ceiling height of the room, for a standard 2.4m height a 63mm CLS timber will be fine or if you prefer 75mm x 50mm these should be installed at 400mm or 450mm centres depending on plasterboard size.. The wall can be insulated to help with sound deadening and heat loss, there are even accoustic plasterboards if you want to go a bit further. If the wall is dividing a garage area you would need to install a fire door and suitable frame, so its best to consult your local building control. Ed
